Daisuke Ashihara’s manga World Trigger currently serializing in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) is becoming an anime. The sci-fi action story, which depicts invaders from another world called Neighbors and a group who fights them called Border, is highly popular with readers. Fans also have high expectations for the anime. The broadcast of the anime will finally begin on Oct. 5. Its timeslot, 6:30 every Sunday on TV Asahi, makes it easy to watch for kids and families. With the anime adaptation, it seems the series’ fanbase will expand even more.
The series is set in Mikado City, which has a population of 280,000. One day, a gate to another world is opened in the city. The result is the appearance of invaders from another world called Neighbors who begin attacking the city. It seemed only a matter of time until the city was destroyed, until a mysterious group suddenly appears and repels them. This group is Border, the World Border Protection Agency which fights to protect the world on “this side.” Border member and middle school student Osamu Mikumo meets Yuuma Kuga, a transfer student who has the handheld trigger given to Border members. A story begins to move for Yuuma, who calls himself a Neighbor, and Osamu.
When the anime adaptation was first announced, it gathered attention for its highly skilled staff. The series director is Mitsuru Hongo of Crayon Shin-chan and Outlaw Star fame, the series composer is Hiroyuki Yoshino of Macross F and Accel World fame, and in charge of the music is Kenji Kawai of Ghost in the Shell and Mobile Suit Gundam 00 fame. The character designers are Toshihisa Kaiya and Hitomi Tsuruta. Producing the animation is Toei Animation. Because the company has a reputation for its shonen anime, fans are looking forward to the completion of this work.
In time with the anime adaptation, events are also in the works. An event for the anime World Trigger is on now at J-World Tokyo in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. Experience the worlds of anime as they cross over the screen. Also, the first World Trigger shop will open during the event Animate Girls Festival 2014 in Ikebukuro on Nov. 8 and 9. A special stage event with the series’ wonderful voice cast will also take place on Nov. 8 at 16:00.
