Silver Spoon Episode 11 Recap: “Run, Hachiken!” 0

The bacon made from Pork Bowl is finally ready. Everyone gathers around to try it, and the dish made from that bacon makes their appetites even bigger. When Hachiken mentions he wants to send bacon to Mikage’s family, his brother, Shingo, who came to Ezono to work part-time, tells him, “Send some home. Show them your true powers!” and Hachiken ends up doing so. Later, a girl classmate comes looking for him. One would think that she is going to confess, but no, she just wants to buy some bacon. Then come some scary-faced third years, but instead of taking away the bacon as expected, they exchange goods. In a way, Hachiken is pretty popular.

The next day, Komaba goes for morning training with overflowing enthusiasm. In contrast with Komaba, Oogawa, the captain of the horse-riding club, tells Hachiken that finding a job that suits him is enough. Hachiken says to Mikage, “I thought Ezono was full of people who think about their future,” and that he is not sure if he is moving forward. However, Mikage tells him that he is moving forward alright.

While working in the straw shed, the headmaster strikes up a conversation with Hachiken, who tells him he ran away from his college prep course...but the headmaster asks him if Ezono, the place Hachiken ran away to, is full of negative people and things. Hachiken thinks back upon his time spent here - eventful and funny days. The headmaster tells him that as long as he has a place to run away to, he is different from the livestock who have nowhere to run. However, Hachiken asks back, “What about people who have nowhere to run?” The headmasters answers that he wants him to become strong for other people and to turn running away into a plus.

Hachiken and the others go to watch the game where Komaba plays as a pitcher. The game held them in suspense, but in the end, the Ezono baseball team marks a splendid victory. Being moved by Komaba pitching a whole game, Hachiken and the others decide to go home running.

Then, the next generation of little pigs arrive at the school. Yoshino says she wants to do research on whey-fed pigs, being influenced by Hachiken, who names the piglets again, saying he will continue to feel bad about eating living beings.

I have to do something, I want to do something! If you see someone working hard, that person’s enthusiasm will stick to you. And there are some questions during adolescence that might have no answer. However, tackling them head on and struggling your way through might be the way to becoming a true adult. The second season of Silver Spoon will begin broadcasting in January 2014. We can’t wait to see it!
