Tokyo Game Show 2014 was held for four days beginning on Sept. 18. This year, attendance totaled 251,832 people, the second highest attendance in the event’s history. The event was exciting, and there were areas so congested with people that you couldn’t move forward.
TGS 2014 had the most company booths in its history with 421 (202 being from overseas). Companies were chosen via an appointment system, with 601 applying, the highest in the event’s history. There were a wide variety of new titles for various platforms as well as new introductions into the Japanese market including a VR head-mounted display, all of which had long lines.
The Japan Game Awards 2014 were also held concurrently with TGS 2014 and the big winners were Monster Hunter 4 (3DS) and Youkai Watch (3DS). Twelve games also won awards in the Future Division that focuses on anticipated games including Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (PS4 / PS3 / Xbox One / Xbox 360).
The dates for next year’s TGS have already been decided. It will be held at the Makuhari Messe International Convention Complex from Sept. 17-20.
