Ricoh Web Project “Try to Image the Year 2036” Part 4: Tow Ubukata Imagines the Future

On Aug. 18, Ricoh 1 released the fourth part of its web project “Try to Image the Year 2036” in which author Tow Ubukata, famous for writing the historical novel Tenchi Meisatsu and the anime Ghost in the Shell: Arise, imagines the future. The story’s illustrations were created by filmmaker YKBX who also worked on the Vocaloid opera The End. Currently, the video is only available in Japanese.

This project, which started in August of last year, is a collaboration with creators on the forefront of depicting the future in novels, manga, anime, and games, in which they are free to express what they think the year 2036 will be like. Along with the release of Part 4 of the project, the project’s website has been renewed, making it easier to read.

The website will be updated each Tuesday until Sept. 24 with three short stories about how things will function in the future, including content released in Japan, as well as discussions between Ubukata and researchers at Ricoh. In the year 2036, where will people live, how will they work, and how will they communicate? Creators and researchers at Ricoh are expanding their imaginations through talks regarding their visions of the future.
