July 20 was the anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. On that day 45 years ago, Neil Armstrong and the rest of the crew succeeded in landing on the surface of the moon, marking a first for humanity. “One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind” - this phrase is still quite famous today. For this monumentally auspicious day, a special video was made of the anime Space Brothers, which will be releasing theatrically on Aug. 9.

The roughly 1 and a half minute video pays respect to the astronauts who succeeded in landing on the moon during the Apollo project. Along with the anime there are several impressive quotes from the astronauts as well. The video makes viewers feel our great history of space exploration. Along with Armstrong, the names of the astronauts from Apollo 12, 14, 15, and 17 are also listed. Also, the very end of the video shows Hibito Nanba. This is because in the work he is the first Japanese astronaut to succeed in landing on the moon aboard the CES-51 on March 8, 2026. Combining actual history with the world of Space Brothers makes for an entertaining video.

Space Brothers is a popular manga created by Chūya Koyama. It gathered high popularity when the TV anime began airing in 2012. On Aug. 9, a movie will be released that includes an original story penned by Koyama himself. The movie will depict an origin story not seen in the manga. By seeing the movie, fans will come to understand why the Nanba brothers became so interested in space. There is about two weeks left until it is released in Japan countrywide, and it seems the video released this time is a special present to tide fans over.
