Evangelion Store Tokyo-01, the official store for Evangelion which, since November 2011, has gathered popularity for roughly two and a half years in its Harajuku, Tokyo location off of Takeshita-Dōri, is moving to Ikebukuro. Its new location will be inside Ikebukuro P’ Parco located outside the northeast exit of Ikebukuro Station. The Harajuku store will be in business until June 1, and the Ikebukuro P’ Parco store will open this October. Due to Ikebukuro picking up attention in recent years for being a new spot for anime and manga, this will likely increase tourists to the area even more.
In celebration of the move, Evangelion Store Tokyo-01 is currently holding the fair “Evangelion Store Tokyo-01 Move Commemoration - We’re Coming, Ikebukuro! Move Fair!!” This includes a Harajuku to Ikebukuro stamp rally, limited “Yurushito” clear file presents, the event Eva T Party in Harajuku, and the store’s announcements being taken over by Asuka and Kaworu. For the stamp rally, one out of a possible four stamps will be given for each order over 1,000 yen. In addition to the Ikebukuro store also taking part when it opens in October, there will also be commemorative presents given out. A ceremony will also be held on the store’s final business day, June 1, at which will be the race queen from Evangelion Racing and Yurushito.
Nico Nico’s move of its headquarters from Harajuku was similarly announced recently at Ikebukuro P’ Parco. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Ikebukuro P’ Parco has aimed to be the location for street fashion information since it opened. In recent years, a need has risen for products related to anime and games and products that follow the current trends of those in their teens and 20s. Around 30% of Ikebukuro P’ Parco’s sales floor is being renewed and will reopen this October. Among those joining Ikebukuro P’ Parco are the Nico Nico headquarters and Evangelion Store Tokyo-01. Ikebukuro P’ Parco is close to Otome Road and Animate Ikebukuro, which is recognized as Japan’s largest anime shop. It seems that this will further enliven the area, which has seen a boost due to the influence of pop culture. It is also likely that this will further solidify the status of anime and manga areas in Tokyo like Akihabara and Nakano.
