AniCool - Zero Intermediate Fee Anime Production Crowdfunding Site Opens

AniCool, a zero intermediate fee crowdfunding site that specializes in anime, opened on July 10. Stone Free, the managing body of AniCool, is first carrying out fundraising for making works on AniCool. If successful, they will create original anime and distribute it worldwide online for free. They aim to become a service that amasses original anime works mainly through crowdfunding.

Stone Free is a company that plans, develops, and manages services that distribute worldwide original anime and manga content. AniCool was launched as one facet of this company for the purpose of fans supporting animators through providing monetary funds, and animators creating anime they truly want to create through relying on fan support. In this way, fans’ craving for wanting to see the coolest anime and animators’ passion for wanting to create the coolest anime are connected.

The flow of the site is similar to that of existing crowdfunding sites. Through offering support, fans can get special bonuses as thanks from the animators, including limited goods that can only be obtained through AniCool, the chance to star in a minor role as a voice actor, and more. On the other hand, what makes AniCool unique is the fact that there are no intermediate fees at all. And that’s not all, AniCool only accepts full-scale animation production proposals from animation studios as projects it will publish on its site for funding.

In the first year, through help from anime production teams and anime studios, AniCool intends to launch anime production projects at a rate of one per month. At the time of its opening, the site is only available in Japanese and English, but it will soon also support Chinese (simplified and traditional). The site’s current project is Serendipity: A Happy Encounter (directed by Takuto Nakano). AniCool intends to challenge itself through independent anime created using new techniques, and through having full-length anime projects with the longest run times in the world created through crowdfunding.
