It was announced on May 16 that the anime Hanayamata will begin broadcasting in July. The broadcast will play on TV Tokyo, TV Aichi, TV Osaka and AT-X and will cover the country. Hanayamata is based on a manga of the same name by Sou Hamayumiba that is currently serializing in Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Forward. The theme of the work is yosakoi dancing. Even the tagline reads, “Won’t you dance with me?”
A teaser visual to go along with this announcement has also been released on the official site. It shows the five main characters practicing the yosakoi on the roof of Yuigahama Middle School, the story’s setting. Each one is energetically jumping into the air holding naruko (small wooden clappers using in yosakoi) in both hands. In the background is the beach of Enoshima, Kamakura. It seems this area is popular as an anime location as well. However, the only character who can actually be seen in the visual is main character Naru Sekiya. The remaining four will be revealed in order at a later time.
The characters will be revealed on May 27 during a broadcast on Nico Nico Live. Even the title of the anime, Hanayamata, gives a peek into the relationship of the characters and is an interesting point. The broadcast will begin at 21:00 (JST) and will feature performances by Reina Ueda (Naru Sekiya), Minami Tanaka (Hannah N. Fontanstand), Kaya Okuno (Yaya Sasame), Manami Numakura (Machi Tokiwa), and Yuka Otsubo (Tami Nishimikado).
Other not-to-be-missed characters have been announced as well. These include Sari, advisor to the yosakoi club, who is played by Megumi Toyoguchi and Masaru Ofuna, manager of the yosakoi shop, who is played by Tsuyoshi Koyama. We’ll bring you more information on this anime, including these new characters, as it releases.
