It has been announced that Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2014 (Kyomaf 2014) will be held on Sept. 20-21.
Kyomaf is held in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture and is the largest manga and anime event in Western Japan. The event’s mascot character is Tomoe-chan who was created by Kosuke Fujishima, a manga artist and illustrator known for his work on Oh My Goddess!, Sakura Wars, and the Tales series.
The event began in 2012 under the four ideas of “activating business transactions,” “supporting and training talent,” “grabbing the attention of tourists from Japan and abroad,” and “dispatching content to the world.” The event has found success in being not just an event that appeals to anime and manga geared toward foreigners, but also for allowing overseas visitors free access to a portion of the event. There was huge excitement surrounding last year’s Kyomaf. Not only were popular anime like Attack on Titan and Puella Magi Madoka Magica on display, the event also brought in 31,800 visitors.
For this year’s Kyomaf, roughly 50 businesses are scheduled to have displays. In addition, there will be booths of all the big works, limited collaboration goods for sale, and the latest news on new anime. Popular seiyū and directors are also scheduled to make appearances.
