“Tsugumori Takeoff VR Experience” comes to Sidonia Base in Shinjuku; gets drastic power up thanks to Oculus Rift
Knights of Sidonia the Movie will finally be released on March 6. And with the new series Battle for Planet Nine set to begin airing on TV in April, much excitement can be seen from the anime Knights of Sidonia. Meanwhile, a shop celebrating the film’s release called Sidonia Base opened in Shinjuku Marui Annex on Feb. 25. The shop is located in the sixth floor event space and will be open until March 11.
Sidonia Base features a lineup of merchandise from the series. Also connected to Shinjuku Marui Annex is the large cineplex, Shinjuku Wald 9. Since Knights of Sidonia the Movie will also be screened at Shinjuku Wald 9, it seems fans will be able to enjoy the store along with the film.
A raffle will also take place as a service limited to Epos Card holders. Those who spend 3,000 yen or more in the shop have the chance to win original Knights of Sidonia merchandise. Available prizes include an illustration signed by the main cast (Prize A), a Knights of Sidonia metal poster (Prize B), and bromides (Prize C).
Furthermore, the “Tsugumori Takeoff VR Experience” which uses the Oculus Rift virtual reality technology will take place on March 7 and 8 in the seventh floor event space. Visitors can experience a takeoff scene that feels like they themselves are actually piloting Tsugumori thanks to the device’s 360° field of vision. The “Tsugumori Takeoff VR Experience” has been held previously in various locations to great popularity. And now the experience has been drastically powered up thanks to three new additions: a joystick for operating takeoff controls, sound that reverberates directly through your body through an oscillating unit, and LED lights that blink along with the takeoff sequence.
Even for those who have tried the Oculus Rift in the past, they’ll likely want to try it once more in the “Tsugumori Takeoff VR Experience.” And for those who haven’t tried it before, you’re definitely in for an entertaining experience unlike anything before.
