Space Battleship Yamato 2199 has been well-received both as films and as a TV series, and a new theatrical release is planned for late autumn 2014. Though there is still some time until the new installment, fans of the series still have plenty to enjoy. Starting in April, the series will be re-aired on Tokyo MX and BS 11, and a Space Battleship Yamato 2199 Art Exhibit will also open at the Seibu Ikebukuro flagship store on April 22.
The exhibit will reveal numerous materials never released until now, including original artwork. Events such as artist signings and a talk with the cast called “Yamatalk” have also been scheduled.
Additionally, Seibu Railway will sell limited edition tickets to commemorate the opening of the art exhibit. The tickets come in Earth or Gamilas varieties, both of which cost 1,000 yen, and will be released on April 22 to coincide with the start of the exhibit.
Purchase of the tickets will be limited to three Seibu Railway stations: Ikebukuro Station, Tokorozawa Station, and Seibu-Shinjuku Station. The two versions of these premium tickets have also been limited to 3,000 sets each.
The impressive details of the tickets cannot be overlooked. The universe of Space Battleship Yamato 2199 has been packed into both versions. In addition to the four tickets featuring character illustrations, the sets also include a 14-page booklet and an original postcard. The postcard artwork has been drawn by Michio Murakawa, who handled the manga and display design for the anime.
The Earth version consists of Yamato and its crew and the Gamilas version consists of the planet Gamilas and its mecha and characters. The execution will make you want both versions, rather than one in particular.
