A short anime adaptation of Dayan, which was born from Wachifield in Jiyugaoka, Tokyo, is in the works. Neko no Dayan will begin broadcasting on April 26 during Music Launcher on Tokyo MX. In celebration of this, a special discussion between creator Akiko Ikeda and Sumi Shimamoto, the voice of Dayan, was published in the may issue of Moe magazine which released on April 3. They discuss their feelings on the anime adaptation and more.
Dayan was originally created by Ikeda as the mascot for Wachifield, which opened in Jiyugaoka, Tokyo. He is a resident of the fictional kingdom of Wachifield and has been used in novels, picture books, drama CDs, and more. 2013 marked his 30th birthday. The anime adaptation is also one part of commemorating this occasion. The popular Dayan is finally becoming animated.
Details on the anime can be read in the May issue of Moe. The magazine has an article on the creation of the anime, production materials, the original comic, interviews, and other specials. Also included in the appendix are four seasonal postcards, and a Dayan plush cushion is included as a bonus.
The centerpiece of the issue is the discussion between Akiko Ikeda and Sumi Shimamoto. Shimamoto is known for her roles as Nausicaä and Kyoko Otonashi as well as Clarisse in Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro. Her lovely voice is well known, but it will be interesting to see how she will play Dayan.
