Director Shinichirō Watanabe and composer Yōko Kanno, both of whom worked on the 2013 TV anime Kids on the Slope, are joining forces once again. Joining them is renowned animator Kazuto Nakazawa.
At the 2014 Noitamina Lineup Presentation held in Odaiba, Tokyo on March 21, the TV anime adaptation of Zankyō no Terror was announced. This original anime to which there is no manga, novel, games, or other original work is being spearheaded by director Watanabe. It will broadcast during Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block from July to September of this year.
Director Watanabe is known for his works Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo which both have many passionate fans all over the world even today. A popular characteristic of his work is his animation style.
Watanabe and Kanno are a close-knit team that has worked together on Cowboy Bebop and Kids on the Slope. Kanno is also active in the movie and commercial spheres, but she is especially skilled in the area of anime. Her many known works include Macross F. Her intense jazz scene depicted using anime in Kids on the Slope became a hit.
Character designer Kazuto Nakazawa has also worked with director Watanabe on Samurai Champloo. He is also famous for the anime segment in the movie Kill Bill.
Continuing on from Kids on the Slope, the anime is being produced by Mappa, which is lead by producer Masao Maruyama. Look forward to an adventure the likes of which hasn’t been seen before.
Though the phrase “Pull the trigger, on this world” has been released, there are still many mysteries surrounding the work. Just what will this develop into?
A display area for the anime was also set up at the Aniplex booth at AnimeJapan 2014, which was held on March 22 and 23 at Tokyo Big Sight. Here, a new PV was screened and artwork by director Watanabe and character designer Nakazawa were on display.
