The channels to broadcast Mushishi: Zoku-Shō beginning this April have been decided. The anime will broadcast on Tokyo MX, GTV, Tochigi TV, ABC, and BS11. It will also be distributed online, allowing even those outside the broadcast areas to be able to see it. Because this is the second season of the popular anime, this is very good news for fans.
New news has also been released regarding the 1-hour special titled Mushishi Tokubetsu-hen: Hihamukage that broadcast in January. The jacket illustration of the Blu-ray and DVD have been released. The visual was drawn for the occasion by character designer and chief animation director Yoshihiro Umakoshi. It shows a profile of Ginko’s face and the butterflies in the background give it a whimsical atmosphere.
The bonus in the first-press limited edition BD has also been announced. Included will be a special 60-page booklet that includes storyboards, interviews, and explanations. Both the BD and DVD will release on April 23.
The original work to Mushishi is a manga created by Yuki Urushibara. It began serialization in 1999 in Afternoon Season Zōkan. After that, it was moved to Monthly Afternoon where its serialization continued until 2008. The TV anime broadcast from 2005 to 2006. Afterward, director Hiroshi Nagahama went on to work on Detroit Metal City and The Flowers of Evil. From its first broadcast, Mushishi picked up attention for its visual expressions and background art. It became highly praised and went on to win the Award of Excellence in the TV anime category of the 5th Tokyo International Anime Awards. Many of the staff from the first season are returning to work on Season 2, and fans’ anticipation continues to rise.
