The manga for Brynhildr in the Darkness written by Rin Okamoto began serialization in 2012. The story follows high school student Ryota Murakami who can’t forget about his childhood friend who died in an accident while they were young. Feeling that he must fulfill his promise to her, he joins his school’s astronomy club and begins searching for aliens. Then one day, a beautiful girl named Neko Kuroha who is the spitting image of his childhood friend transfers into his class. Ryota then becomes mixed up with Neko, who claims to be a magician who ran away from a research lab and is being pursued.

With Brynhildr in the Darkness, Rin Okamoto who is well-known for his work Elfen Lied has crafted a romantic dark fantasy. Just what will happen to these two? Don’t take your eyes off of this work.

Author Rin Okamoto made his debut in 2000 in a special issue of Young Jump with Elfen Lied, which became a hugely influential work. After that, he established popularity with Elfen Lied and Nononono, both of which were serialized in Young Jump. Brynhildr in the Darkness is Okamoto’s newest work. The popular work currently spans six individual volumes. It seems its popularity will be multiplied with the anime adaptation.

Story
High school student Ryouta Murakami can’t forgive himself for letting his childhood friend die in an accident when he was a kid. Feeling that he needs to fulfill his promise to her of “proving the existence of aliens,” he joins his school’s astronomy club and spends each day gazing at the stars.

One day, a transfer student named Neko Kuroha who looks like his childhood friend’s doppelganger joins his class. She calls herself a magician…

This magician has several special powers from being operating on and having her body altered through drugs at a research facility, and she will die if she doesn’t take a certain medicine every day. What’s more, she is being pursued relentlessly by people from the research lab she escaped from.

Being pursued by high-ranking magicians and having her medicine run out––with death drawing near from all sides, what will Ryouta and Neko choose to do?
