SoniAni - Super Sonico the Animation Broadcast to Begin Next January

Nitroplus’ live mascot girl, Super Sonico, is picking up buzz thanks to the unthinkable decision to create a TV anime based on her. Now, information on the broadcast has finally been revealed. The anime will start broadcasting next January via a variety of media including local broadcasting, premium channels, BS, PC, and mobile services.

Super Sonico is a virtual idol who debuted in 2006 as the mascot girl for popular PC game maker Nitroplus’ concert event “Nitro Super Sonic.” In addition to being an active college student, she is also a gravure model, video game character, and musician. Until now, she has appeared on CDs, in the Windows game SoniComi, in magazines and manga, and as figures. Now, anime can finally be added to this list. The anime was announced on Oct. 14, Super Sonico’s birthday, as a surprise for fans. It is being produced by White Fox, directed by Kenichi Kawamura, written by Yōsuke Kuroda, and the characters are being designed by Masafumi Tamura. With this staff selection, great things are anticipated.

Super Sonico will be voiced by Super Sonico herself in the anime. Moreover, she will also be the artist for the opening theme. The title of this song has not yet been announced, but the song is planned to release next spring. This will likely be Sonico’s major debut that will broaden her activities even past just anime.

Leading up to the TV broadcast, a big event was announced to take place. On Dec. 28, a screening event of the first two episodes of the anime will be held beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Toho Cinemas Roppongi Hills in Tokyo. Appearing at this event will be Minoru Shiraishi (the leader of the Super Sonico support team), Ayano Yamamoto (co-leader of the Super Sonico support team), Mai Gotō (voice of Suzu Fujimi), and Mami Ozaki (voice of Fūri Watanuki). Seating to the event is assigned and tickets cost ¥2,500 (tax included). Attendees will receive an invitation card written by Sonico. Check the official site for all the details (available in Japanese only).

Also, the event “SoniTalk! Super Sonico Daisuki Seiyū” will be available to stream on Nico Nico Live on Dec. 20. Beginning at 9:00 p.m., the event will feature a wonderful lineup of performers including Shiraishi, Yamamoto, Hiromi Igarashi, Takuya Eguchi, Tomokazu Sugita, and Joy Max.
