The Oct. 26 theatrical release of Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion throughout Japan is approaching. Now, the third key visual for the movie has been released. The illustration was drawn for the occasion by manga artist Ume Aoki, who is also the original character designer on the movie.
The new key visual shows the six main magical girls––Madoka Kaname, Homura Akemi, Sayaka Miki, Mami Tomoe, Kyōko Sakura, and Nagisa Momoe––and Kyubey along with the phrase “We finally meet again.” Differing dramatically from the visuals released thus far, this visual shows all the characters with soft expressions. The most impressive point though is Aoki’s new drawing of Nagisa who is appearing for the first time in this movie. The visual is finished off with a colorful design that will heighten even more the anticipation of the movie.
In related news, beginning on Oct. 5 at movie theaters throughout Japan, the third round of advance ticket sales for the movie will begin. Each ticket will come with a B2-size poster of this new visual. However, quantities are limited and distribution will end once supplies run out. For those in Japan that want to get their hands on this poster, we recommend purchasing your tickets soon after this round of sales begins. General tickets cost 1,500 yen each and card-type tickets that have assigned seating can be purchased online for 1,600 yen each (Both prices include tax.).
Madoka Magica began as a TV anime in January 2011. Famous creators were gathered for the staff––including Akiyuki Shinbo as director, Gen Urobuchi as scriptwriter, and Ume Aoki as original character designer––which caused the work to explode in popularity. In 2012, the first two movies in the series, a restructuring of the TV anime called Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Beginnings and Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Eternal, were released and they too became huge successes. The third movie in the series, Rebellion, will tell an entirely new story. Fans are waiting with bated breath to find out what kind of story this will be. With less than a month left until its release, things will be heating up from here.
