Action Game Bayonetta to Become Anime Film, Receives Special Invitation to Tokyo International Movie Festival

A game that captured the world in a swirl of excitement when it was released in 2009 is being made into an anime. That game is Hideki Kamiya’s Bayonetta (published and distributed by Sega, published by Platinum Games). Labeled as a “climax action” game, Bayonetta follows a witch named Bayonetta who possesses a superhuman-like body and reflexes and who wields guns in both hands and on her feet as she hunts down angels in a world where good and evil are switched. The game’s beautiful graphics attracted the enthusiastic support of many fans. Now, the series is becoming a full-length anime film called Bayonetta: Bloody Fate which will be released on Nov. 23 in Japan for a short two-week run. This is surely an anime movie to look out for this fall.

The film will also be screened at the 26th Tokyo International Film Festival to be held on Oct. 17 as a special invitation work. This was revealed at a presentation of the festival’s lineup on Sept. 19. It seems the film will be making its world premiere at this festival. After this, the film will be screened in 10 theaters total in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sapporo. The film will only be screened for two weeks, so fans will have to hurry to the theaters if they want to see it. On Sept. 19, the official site and Twitter for the film opened on which more news to follow will be posted.

Bayonetta: Bloody Fate is expected to have an original story. The anime is being produced by Gonzo, which has created many masterpiece anime, among them being Blue Submarine No. 6, Yukikaze, Last Exile, and Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo.

Atsuko Tanaka will be voicing the main character, Bayonetta. Other stellar cast members including Mie Sonozaki, Daisuke Namikawa, and Miyuki Sawashiro have been assembled. We are curious to see just what to expect from this animated version of Bayonetta. Bayonetta will also be seen at Makuhari Messe during Tokyo Game Show 2013. During the event, model and artist Maho Hashimoto will be dressed as the character. She will excite the venue together with “BeyoGirls” with accurately recreated outfits and guns, sporting glasses and clad in tank tops and hotpants.
