Dengeki Daioh, in which many popular manga are serialized, has teamed up with animation studio P.A. Works, which is known for creating such anime hits as Hanasaku Iroha and The Eccentric Family. The two companies are working together on the new anime Nagi no Asu Kara. This tag team is currently picking up attention for being one that hasn’t been seen before. The anime is a fantasy work that takes place in the ocean and on land. The story depicts the adolescent period of boys and girls who live under the sea.

An interesting point to this anime is that while Dengeki Daioh and P.A. Works are teaming up to create it, it’s not based on an original manga. Though a manga version of the work began being serialized in Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh this June, the TV anime and the manga will be progressing in sync with one another. It’s clear that both companies are challenging themselves with this new work.

The anime is being directed by Toshiya Shinohara whose work includes Black Butler, Tatakau Shisho, and RDG: Red Data Girl. The series composer is Mari Okada whose work includes Hanasaku Iroha and Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day and who has a reputation for creating calming slice-of-life stories. It seems fans can anticipate her continuing this streak with Nagi no Asu Kara.

Nagi no Asu Kara will begin broadcasting Oct. 3 on Tokyo MX, BS Animax, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, and TV Aichi. Before this though, an event for fans to enjoy the anime early has been planned. On Sept. 27, an advance screening event of the first episode will be held at the UDX Theater in Akihabara, Tokyo. Three members of the cast––Natsuki Hanae (Hikari Sakishima), Kana Hanazawa (Manaka Mukaido), and Ai Kayano (Chisaki Hiradaira)––will also make not-to-be-missed appearances at the event. The event will be held three times––6 p.m., 7 p.m., and 8 p.m.––and consist of the screening and a discussion with these three voice stars. Tickets to this event will be given out on a lottery basis for those who apply on the official site.
