This year marks the second time the official translation contest “Manga Translation Battle 2013” will be held. It is a team effort between Tokyo Otaku Mode, the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs, and Mangapolo. Mangapolo is a Japanese project aimed at promoting Japanese manga within Japan and abroad.
This year, translators can choose from one of four titles that span a diverse range of genres including boys love, four-panel, horror, and comedic manga. The four titles are: Fuan no Tane + (Masaaki Nakayama, Akita Shoten), Acchi Kocchi (Ishiki, Houbunsha) , Koi to wa Yobenai (Hatoko Machiyama, Libre Publishing), and Saya Saya to (Fumiko Tanikawa, Shōnen Gahōsha).
Contestants are asked to translate the first dialogue of the first chapter (unless otherwise noted) from Japanese to English. All levels and nationalities are welcome! The best translator will win a trip to Japan and be recognized as a professional translator of their chosen work and runners-up will receive tablets! Start translating now! The submission deadline is Sept. 30. Further details are available on TOM’s official page for the contest accessible via the link below.
