Submit Your Own Original Titan to the Pixiv “Attack on Titan Illustration Contest” on Now

A joint contest between the hugely popular manga Attack on Titan, which has surpassed 23 million copies in print, and the illustration submission site Pixiv is now underway. The “Attack on Titan Illustration Contest” started on Aug. 9 and is being held until Sept. 17. There are two categories for the contest: one is open to all submissions, and one is open to originally designed Titans. Original author of the series, Hajime Isayama, is also participating as a judge. The winning artists will receive a signed reproduction of an original drawing.

A wide range of works themed around Attack on Titan are being accepted in the General Category, and originally designed Titans are being accepted in the Original Titan Category. Those who would like to enter can upload their work with the tag “進撃の巨人イラコン” for the General Category and “僕の考えた巨人” for the Original Titan Category. There is no size limit for entered works. Entries will be accepted until Sept. 17 at 11:59 p.m. (JST). A winner will be chosen by the judges from each category, and the creators of those works will win a reproduction of an original drawing signed by the author of Attack on Titan, Hajime Isayama. Since this contest is for a hugely talked about work, it is expected that there will be many entries with a wide range of variety.

The original work for Attack on Titan is a currently serialized manga that started in October 2009 in the magazine Bessatsu Shonen Magazine (Kodansha). While being a newcomer work, it has caused a massive stir, and in 2011 won the 35th Kodansha Manga Award. On Aug. 9 of this year, the 11th volume of the manga was released.

The TV series for Attack on Titan that began in April of this year is also doing very well and is further driving up the amount of the manga being sold. The theme song as well has recorded favorable sales and has gone on to become one of the big hits of the year. The anime is being directed by Tetsurō Araki of Death Note fame, composed by Yasuko Kobayashi of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fame, and produced by Wit Studio.
