Leiji Matsumoto is a master in the world of Japanese anime and comics. One of his representative works, Captain Harlock, is being reimagined in a new movie to be released in Japan on Sept. 7. To celebrate the release, Captain Harlock campaigns will begin on July 20 in Odaiba, Tokyo.
The first is a concept room for Captain Harlock being established at the Hotel Grand Pacific Le Daiba. With a recreated window and interior from the warship Arcadia, as well as Harlock’s captain’s chair and more, it’s a space in which the mood of Captain Harlock can be savored. Furthermore, concept art from the series’ past will be displayed on the walls. Reservations are required to stay in this room, so make sure to check the exclusive site if you will be in the area.
The second campaign is a special collaboration with Japan’s largest indoor theme park, Tokyo Joypolis. Attractions that will make guests feel as if they have become crew members of Captain Harlock’s battleship Arcadia will be implemented throughout Joypolis. Through a stamp rally, screenings of special movies, photo areas for taking commemorative pictures with the crew of the Arcadia and Harlock, special food items themed after Harlock, and more, guests will be able to fully enjoy the world of Captain Harlock.
The third campaign will consist of Captain Harlock taking over the passenger ships Himiko and Hotaluna that run within Sumidagawa and Tokyo Bay. The ships will be designed by Matsumoto in the image of a spaceship. Within the ships will be movie screenings, life-size character cutouts on display, an original food menu featuring gelato themed after the characters for sale, and more. For a limited time, special Captain Harlock commemorative tickets will also be for sale.
Through these big campaigns, fans will be able to enjoy the world of Matsumoto’s Captain Harlock before the new movie’s release at one of Tokyo’s popular sightseeing spots: Odaiba.
