A Blu-ray box set for the anime adaptation of Black Lagoon that was broadcast from 2006-2010 has been announced. The original work is enjoying a popular serialization in Monthly Sanday GX (publisher: Shogakukan). To date, two seasons and an OVA of the anime adaptation have been produced.
This rightfully called definitive edition includes all 29 episodes of the anime. Rei Hiroe, the original author of the series, is also drawing an original key visual for this box set, which will be released in Japan on June 26. In addition to the anime, the limited first edition of the box set will include various extras.
This box set encompasses six discs in addition to a short anime based on a bonus manga included in the back of the individual volumes of the original manga. In all, this huge volume is more than 800 minutes in length. Also included is a two-disc CD soundtrack, which will allow fans to also enjoy the series’ lively music.
Furthermore, the set will include a 48-page special booklet called “Yellow Flag Menu” and a limited jacket illustration for the individually volumed Blu-ray series called “Jacket Illustration Panorama Pinup.” The set’s contents will come in a digipak with an outer case illustrated by Hiroe. Surely, this can be called the ultimate box set packed with the entire anime. The price of this box set is 52,500 yen (tax included).
Black Lagoon has gathered popularity for its hard-boiled action, and more than 5 million volumes of the manga have been sold. The series began serialization in 2001, with an anime adaptation being broadcast on TV in 2006. In 2010, an OVA for the series was developed.
The director of the anime is Sunao Katabuchi, who has worked on Princess Arete, Mai Mai Miracle, and other movies. Katabuchi has been in charge of directing the entire series, and he has done a wonderful job of reproducing the world of the original work. After a long hiatus, the manga resumed serialization this year and is once again showing fans’ excitement for the series.
