It has been announced that a new TV anime by Kyoto Animation called Free! will begin broadcasting this July. The anime is a school drama that focuses on five good looking high school guys who are active in the school’s swim club.
Free!, which received an honorable mention at the second Kyoto Animation Awards, is based on the work High Speed by Koji Oji. Continuing in the footsteps of Chunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai and Kyokai no Kanata, Free! is picking up attention for being the third work to become an anime after receiving an honorable mention.
The anime’s production staff includes many of the same staff who worked on the huge hit K-On!, including director Hiroko Utsumi and character designer Futoshi Nishiya. Furthermore, the five main characters in the show - Shimazaki Nobunaga, Suzuki Tatsuhisa, Miyano Mamoru, Yonaga Tsubasa, and Hirakawa Daisuke - will be voiced by popular male voice actors, which is sure to attract female fans.
