Science Ninja Team Gatchaman is a popular TV drama that was broadcast in 1972. Its average ratings were 21%, and even today, it has deep-rooted popularity. It was recently announced that an entirely new anime in the series called Gatchaman Crowds will begin broadcasting this July. The anime is planned to air late-night on Nippon TV networks.
Staff for the anime includes Kenji Nakamura of Tsuritama and Kuchu Buranko fame as director, Toshiya Ono of Suite PreCure fame as series composer and scriptwriter, and Koji Nakakita as the suit designer. The anime’s character planner is an up-and-coming illustrator named Kinako who is creating new designs for the characters while retaining the traditional look of Gatchaman. The animation character designer is Yuichi Takahashi of Macross Frontier fame. The company producing the anime is Tatsunoko Productions, the same company that produced the original animation for the series.
The story is set in the year 2015 in Japan at the beginning of summer and takes place in Tachikawa, Tokyo, which becomes the second capital. The main character is a beautiful girl named Ichinose Hajime. Look forward to more information on this anime soon.
