
Fujio A Fujiko is well-know for the works Ninja Hattori-kun, Pro Golfer Saru, and Warau Salesman among others. His phantom work Dream Tunnel went on sale just last month. The original time-travel sci-fi manga was serialized for one year beginning in May 1983 in the Sankei newspaper. It is considered Fujiko’s ‘80s masterpiece, and for the first time, it has now been commercially published as a stand-alone volume.
The story is set in Japan during the post-war recovery years after WWII. Elementary school student Yumeo notices a strange koala in a eucalyptus tree in his backyard who introduces himself as Wiki. Wiki posses a mysterious time travel ability and travels back in time with Yumeo to when his father was a child and Japan was at war. He becomes friends with the children of that time period, but...
Manga researcher Nobuhiko Saito from Meiji University's Yoshihiro Yonezawa Memorial Library is in charge of the manga’s commentary. The new volume is valuable even as a reference for searching into Fujiko’s past.
Recently, Fujiko’s works have been made into live-action adaptations one after another with unwavering popularity. Furthermore, the anime Ninja Hattori-kun was broadcast in India, and it has since picked up popularity. The new series being carried out has also become a hot topic in the area.
