A New “Giant of Light” Appears! His Name is Ultraman Ginga!

On April 12, a certain event was held in Shibuya, Tokyo. The event was to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Tsuburaya Productions, the studio that brought to the world the character who is synonymous with Japanese special effects heroes: Ultraman. Various products were introduced at the event, but there was one announcement that picked up remarkable attention: “In July 2013, a new Ultra Hero will take the scene. His name is Ultraman Ginga.”

The start of the broadcast for Ultraman in 1966 excited living rooms all over Japan. Operating on the conviction of wanting to bring entertainment to many children, Tsuburaya Productions was established and created content that the majority of children in Japan enjoyed. Being influenced by the changes in generations and society, since then, many Ultra Heroes have been introduced, acquiring tremendous popularity from children. Ultraman Zero, who was introduced in 2009, is the son of Ultra Seven and was trained by Ultraman Leo, a master who has been active in the Ultraman series. The series and its movies have earned high acclaim and are enjoyable to both adults who grew up with the series as well as children.

Four years after Ultraman Zero, a new Ultraman has been born. Following in the footsteps of the previous Ultramen, Ultraman Ginga has the same tried and true “Ultraman face.” The face and various parts on the body light up, and fans are anticipating how this effect will be used in the show.

The story of Ultraman Ginga follows a high school student named Hikaru Raido, whose adventure begins when he finds the transformation item Ginga Spark. Hikaru, who is only 17, is the youngest Ultraman in the series’ history. While spending his normal high school days along with his childhood friend and mysterious transfer students, he finds himself slowly becoming entangled in incidents involving monsters and aliens. The story depicts Hikaru’s fight against fate.

As Tsuburaya Productions celebrates its 50th anniversary, the company starts a new turning point with their enthusiasm shining through. Ultraman Ginga will begin broadcasting this July. Tune in and witness a new “Giant of Light”!
