Japan’s International Peace Cooperation, Disaster Relief, and the Ministry of Defense have already collaborated with Thunderbirds, and now, the Metropolitan Police Department has joined in. With Japan’s safety as a theme, various activities are planned.
In celebration of this collaboration, a limited Thunderbirds Blu-ray Box was released in February. Thunderbirds follows the story of International Rescue, a secretive organization created to help those in trouble. Starting in July, in the hopes of preventing elder traffic accidents, informative posters featuring the Tracy siblings from Thunderbirds will be displayed throughout the metropolitan area.
The British science fiction television series Thunderbirds was a huge hit when it was first broadcast in Japan in 1966. Even now, the work has many adoring fans. The activities planned for the collaboration will include something for every generation of fan.
The Thunderbirds Blu-ray Box fully encapsulates the charm of the series. Other than the nine Blu-ray discs included, the bonus videos All About Thunderbirds (~60 min.), Thunderbirds Companion (~50 min.), All About the Secret Base (~23 min.), and Thunderbirds in Tokyo (~20 min.) are also included. The box set is topped off with a 64-page gorgeous handbook among other various content. The Thunderbirds Blu-ray Box costs 44,100 yen (tax included) and is available now.
