Surprising Promotional Campaign Held at ACE 2013 for TV Anime “Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet”

The broadcast for the highly-anticipated anime Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet began on April 7. Before the broadcast began, the anime became a hot topic due to a surprising promotion. From March 30-31 at Anime Contents Expo (ACE) 2013, free Blu-rays containing the first two episodes of the anime were being given out at Bandai Visual’s booth.

This promotion took place a week before the anime began airing. The number of Blu-rays distributed was 8,000 in total, 4,000 each day. The package and the merchandise were such good quality, one wouldn’t think they would be given away for free.

The promotion had high production expenses and it took a lot of work to distribute the discs. However, it was a brave step to increase the popularity of the anime in order to promote sales of future DVD and Blu-ray releases.
