The movie 009 RE:CYBORG, which was released in theaters in October 2012, is being made into a Blu-ray Box that will be released on May 22.
The Blu-ray Box will be a 3-disc set that contains both the 2D and 3D versions of the movie, meaning that you turn up the volume and be blown away by the 3D in your own home. The box set will also come with two additional books. The first is a 112-page book called “009 RE:ANIMATION” which contains production notes givings fans an inside look at the production of the anime, from the background artwork to the music. This book also contains interviews with voice stars Mamoru Miyano and Chiwa Saito. The other is a 32-page book called “009 RE:CREATION.” This book sheds light on the mysteries in the movie. Starting with an interview with director Kenji Kamiyama, the secrets that are laid throughout the movie are explored. This is a great read for after you’ve seen the movie.
However, the contents of this splendid box set don’t end there. Also included is a specially-drawn comic called “Cyborg 009: Setting Off.” The comic features a story that takes place between the original story of the series and the movie. This comic is also included in the regular Blu-ray and DVD versions, so don’t worry.
The 009 RE:CYBORG Blu-ray Box will cost 10,290 yen. The regular edition Blu-ray and DVD will cost 6,090 yen and 5,040 yen, respectively (all prices include tax).
009 RE:CYBORG is based on the original work Cyborg 009 by Shotaro Ishinomori and is directed by Kenji Kamiyama, who is well known from the series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The movie’s impactful CG animation uses new techniques but retains the feeling of cel animation. With this box set, you can enjoy the rebirth of the world of Cyborg 009 in your own home.
