ACE 2013 Food Area is a Success! Collaborative Food is All the Rage!

From March 30-31, Anime Contents Expo (ACE) 2013 was held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba.

At last year’s ACE, not only the event and goods, but also collaborative anime food items were popular. In fact, they was so popular that they sold out in under two hours.

Due to their popularity, collaborative food items were brought back for this year’s ACE. Twenty menus based on characters from popular anime were offered, including those voted on by fans through a public ballot. These items included “Asuna’s Love-packed Sandwich” on the Sword Art Online menu and “Kyoko’s Apple Pie” on the Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie menu.

There were also many other interesting food items worth mentioning. The “Juicy Friend Number One Bento” from the Steins;Gate the Movie: Loading Area of Déjà vu menu came as a complete set with a plastic dome-shaped cup filled with Okabe Rintaro’s and Makise Kurisu’s drink of choice, Dr. Pepper. The “Hagakure Bowl” from the Persona 3 the Movie menu was filled with Hagakure ramen. The “Spaghetti Nero” from the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure menu was a recreation of the spaghetti that Joseph ate while in Rome. There was even original food based on the event, such as the “ACE Oden” which presented the ACE logo using different ingredients.

However, not just the food was powered up at ACE 2013. Compared to last year, this year’s ACE had six more food carts, which succeeded in shortening the wait time for those wanting to buy the delicious collaborative meals. This resulted in a much smoother flow of people in the food area, which was completely packed at lunchtime on both days. The food area also offered an interesting mixture of general attendees and cosplayers all enjoying the collaborative food together. All in all, it was a resounding success.

If you will be coming to next year’s ACE, what food do you want to eat?
