Giant Bug Robot from the Anime “Mushibugyo” Wows Attendees at ACE 2013!

At Anime Contents Expo (ACE) 2013, an impressive, giant bug robot from the anime Mushibugyo, which begins broadcasting this month, was on display. Cosplayers dressed as the main characters were also introduced, livening up the venue with their showy outfits.

Mushibugyo began as a manga by Hiroshi Fukuda and is currently being serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday. The story is set in the Edo period and follows Tsukishima Jinbee, who dreams of being a samurai who “is victorious until the day he dies” and is a member in an organization called Mushibugyo. Together with other members of the organization, Tsukishima fights against giant bugs to protect the citizens of Edo.

The giant bug robot on display at ACE 2013 had an overall length of 11 meters and weighed close to 17 tons; it was even able to walk. Comparing the size of the cosplayers to that of the robot, it becomes clear to see just how big it was. The robot was even able to be ridden, and fans had a great time learning how it feels to ride atop a giant bug robot.
