The 26th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) will be held from Oct. 17-25 at the Roppongi Hills complex and elsewhere across the nation's capital.
During the nine-day event, the Tokyo Sakura Grand Prix award will be given to the best film presented in the competition section. Various programs showcasing films from around the world will also be offered.
Actors and filmmakers at home and abroad will join the festival.
In addition, TIFFCOM 2013, an affiliated international film market devoted to film, TV shows, interactive content, comics and other forms of entertainment, will be held from Oct. 22-24. TIFFCOM has served a business function essential for large-scale film festivals in recent years.
It was also announced that Tom Yoda will step down as TIFF and TIFFCOM chairman. He will be succeeded by Kadokawa Shoten Co. Executive Adviser Yasushi Shiina, who now serves as director-general of the two events.
Shiina worked at Sumitomo Corp.'s Media Division before becoming president of the film companies Asmik Ace Inc. and Kadokawa Pictures Inc.
