On March 11, two years after the Tohoku earthquake, Zapuni began a charity project that aims to support the lives of children affected by the earthquake with revenue and donations by distributing original works created from the collaboration of world-renowned artists in music and Japanese animation.
One such work is called "Blossom." It is directed by Yutaka Yamamoto, who is famous for anime series such as Kannagi and Lucky Star, and it features the song "Hoppipolla" by Iceland's representative post-rock band, Sigur Rós. "Blossom" depicts an old man, who is trying to restore the affected land with his own hands. Even though it is based on reality, with the appearance of the fantastic and lively looking angels watching over the old man, it is infused with the wish for restoration, a wish that overcomes generations.
Zapuni’s productions are made by volunteer musicians and animators, and are currently being delivered through Zapuni’s official site free of charge. In addition, all of the income from selling the songs in the videos and related goods is being donated to help children affected by the disaster.
