Since the 1997 movie Detective Conan: The Time-Bombed Skyscraper, a new Detective Conan movie has been released every year in April. This year, the 17th movie in the series, Detective Conan: Private Eye in the Distant Sea, will be released.
Also for each movie, a celebrity from the world of performers or sports is invited to be a guest voice star. The guest this time is Kou Shibasaki, a popular actress who has played in both TV dramas and movies, including Orange Days, Galileo, Yomigaeri, Japan Sinks, and many others. Being a fan of Detective Conan, she readily accepted the offer.
In 2012, Shibasaki announced a short movie in which she was animated. Due to her assertive strides in anime, it seems that her current role in Detective Conan will be a walk in the park. The character Shibasaki will be playing is named Fujii Nanami, a mysterious member of the Self Defence Force and a key character in the movie’s case. Given her past work, playing a mysterious woman seems appropriate for Shibasaki.
