Director Tomino: "That's a Robot!?" Staff Artwork Also Included for “King Gainer” 10th Anniversary

We've made announcements before regarding the 10th anniversary of the broadcast of Overman King Gainer. To commemorate this anniversary, the Overman King Gainer 10th Anniversary Official Site has gone live, and a variety of news and comments have been released.

Let's first take a look at some information regarding the Blu-ray Memorial Box Set released on March 22, 2013. New artwork has been provided by Kenichi Yoshida and the other members of the superb team of staff for the box and inner jacket sleeves. Video extras have also been included, such as the documentary "The Making of King Gainer, the Latest Series from Director Yoshiyuki Tomino," which aired in 2002.

Comments from Yoshiyuki Tomino, creator and director of this series, as well as the father of the Gundam series, titled "That's a Robot!?" have been posted on the official website.

~That's a Robot!? ~

"A boy and a girl both in distress find warmth by trying their best to forget the cold. It was in that spirit that I produced the series. Nakamura and Nishimura joined the duo of Yoshida and Yasuda and created everything from the mecha to the characters. Then we gathered some young writers, and for the music we were able to get Kouhei Tanaka, but it wasn't the type of situation where we knew who we wanted right down to the actors.

“One problem we had was that something kept being off when the king in the game got involved in a situation. It may have been because the director didn't have a sense of video games. We tinkered around some more with the characters to get them just right, and that helped.

“But still, watching it now, whether it's Princess Ana or anyone, I'm glad that there's a feeling that underneath their fur coats and jackets, they're sweating. After ten years, I actually feel that even more vividly.

“I'd like people to know that this is a very difficult genre and this was one of the rare series where physical ability is more of a necessity than ideas."

This is a look back at the series with words that can only come from Tomino. To all King Gainer fans, don't miss out on this Memorial Box Set, which is packed with valuable features!
