The editorial team at Anime!Anime! recently called on users to complete a survey about 2015 anime. The survey was held over eight days, from Dec. 16–23, and though it was a short period almost 1,500 people responded to the survey, the total number being 1,479. As the year-end approaches, let’s take a look in order at the survey results.
Results have been tallied this time regarding TV anime. 60.2% of respondents were male, and 39.8% were female. This included 38.2% who were 19 or younger and 61.6% who were 25 or younger. The majority of respondents were of the young generation.
■ Best TV Anime of the Year: Charlotte
Close to 1,500 people responded to the survey, and it was a tight race with a scattering of anime voted on. A reason for this is the high number of TV anime that were frequently in the spotlight through media and other means in 2015. Another reason could be the diverse taste of viewers. Each respondent was allowed up to three votes, and the number one anime received a total of 13% of the votes. Conversely, in an age of diversification, it can be said that the top-ranking anime excel in being able to appeal to a wide range of people.
Coming in at No. 1 is Charlotte. In addition to the original story and script by hitmaker Jun Maeda, the anime is produced by P.A. Works. The series depicts with vivid sensitivity the severe fates of young boys and girls with special powers.
At No. 2 narrowly squeezed out of first is Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works. It got to second place, above all, by its high support from teens. Having also topped an anime survey held in summer 2015, the results for Unlimited Blade Works show that it’s maintained high popularity throughout the year.
Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works began broadcasting in 2014, and its second season was broadcast this past April to June. Its popularity has continued since the first season. This series by Kinoko Nasu and TYPE-MOON gained attention for its high quality animation produced by ufotable. It has high support from fans in their early 20s.
In at No. 3 is an anime highly supported by males with ages ranging from late-20s to early 30s, Sound! Euphonium. This anime climbed to the third spot due to the many votes cast by young respondents. On the other hand, in at No. 4 is Osomatsu-kun which received high support from females. No matter how you look at it, though, it was an extremely close race for the top four anime.
Take a look at the entire list and you’ll notice that a representative anime from the winter, spring, summer, and fall seasons each made it into high rankings. One look and you’re sure to see that popular anime were churned out in great numbers over the year. Additional results including by gender and theatrical releases will also be totaled and announced shortly by Anime!Anime!.
