Various idols have debuted in Japan, but we wonder if Momochi Minami is the first idol of her kind. She’s referred to as “the world’s first anime chick idol”, and she looks like she jumped right out of an anime! Momochi is gaining more attention every day.
On Feb. 16, 2013, Momochi worked at the Akihabara nail shop Ita-Color’s Yellow as manager for a day. While enjoying chatting with fans, she served customers as a manager for about an hour. The day was such a huge success that even crowd control was necessary to manage all the fans who gathered at the shop.
Ita-Color’s Yellow is known for its “Ita-nails”, which our characteristic of Akihabara and feature otaku character designs. Nail artists at Ita-Color’s Yellow will design nails based on a manga or photo at a rate of 1000 yen per 10 minutes. Each nail may take 10 - 20 minutes for a simple design and 30-40 minutes for a complex design. After nail artist Ai Suzuki applied her nails, Momochi exclaimed cheerfully, “Wow! Aren’t these amazing!”
Here is a short message from Suzuki of Ita-Color’s Yellow: “Before the idol meet and greet, many male customers came in to have one gel nail put on. They would get it designed with an illustration or the name of the idol they support. This was so they would have something to talk about at the meet and greet. We also have foreign customers. Woman of course, as well as men, please be sure to stop by!”
Momochi is also a regular assistant on the television program “Dream Creator”, which is broadcast on TV Tokyo and Nico Live. For those who haven’t heard of it yet, why not check it out?
