Valentine’s Day in Japan is quite unique. It is a day on which women give chocolate to the men they like. There is also another type of chocolate giving that is common on this day called “giri choco”. This type of chocolate is given to co-workers and close acquaintances. These Valentine’s Day customs are in many ways unique to Japanese culture.
Recently in Japan, more and more anime events have been taking place on Valentine’s Day. This year, an event for Girls und Panzer called “Valentine Carnival!!” was a huge hit. As soon as this anime began broadcasting, it quickly established a large fanbase. The event took place at both Akihabara Gamers and Animate Akihabara. Fans poured into each store to receive Valentine’s Day chocolate from the female employees who participated in the event. The event was so popular that the chocolate ran out in the blink of an eye. It was an event not to be missed for both residents and visitors alike!
