The Fight for the Title of “Sacred Land of Manga” is Over! Tottori and Kochi Sign Friendship Treaty

Up until now, there had been two prefectures in Japan contesting for the title of "Sacred Land of Manga": Kochi prefecture, which came to be known as Manga Koshien, and Tottori prefecture, which organized the first Manga Kingdom Tottori event last year. Which one of them is the real sacred land?

That question was solved this spring.

On March 24, 2013, the Kochi and Tottori prefectures held the event "I Want to be the Sacred Land of Manga! Kochi x Tottori in AKIBA" in Bellesalle, Akihabara and announced the signing of a friendship treaty. Both prefectures’ governors were present to personally sign the treaty, making it a full-scale event.

The two prefectures have been working actively to lure in tourists using the keyword "manga," and both of them are known to be the birthplace of many famous manga artists. In order to strengthen that background, they aim to cooperate in holding events and nurturing talent in the future.

Thus, the battle for the title of “Sacred Land of Manga” has come to an end.
