Astro Boy had a predominant role in shaping the history of Japanese anime. This year marks the 50th anniversary since the anime was first broadcast. Now, commemorative events are popping up everywhere.
One such event is a special program looking at the creator of Astro Boy, Osamu Tezuka. This program aired on Family Gekijo in February. If you missed it, don’t worry, Family Gekijo is also going to broadcast a special 50th anniversary documentary delving deep into Tezuka’s anime. Titled “The God of Manga, the History of the Creation of Japanese TV Anime”, this documentary will be broadcast on March 10 and will look at Tezuka’s childhood experiences and how he got into the anime business. Also during February and March, Tezuka’s anime will be frequently broadcast on the channel.
