In 2012, the popular mystery manga Kindaichi Case Files (*Kindaichi Shōnen no Jikenbo*) surpassed 20 years of being serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine. To commemorate this milestone, a 20 year commemorative project has been underway ever since.
One of the most talked about aspects of the project has been the release of 20th anniversary volumes of the manga. The limited editions of volumes 3 and 4 of the manga will come with a DVD containing the anime episode “The Black Magic Murders”. This episode has been broken into two parts, with the first part included in volume 3 and second part included in volume 4. The story of the episode is also different to that of the manga. Each limited edition manga costs 3,280 yen. Volume 3 was released in December of last year, and volume 4 will be released on Mar. 15.
Production on the second part of “The Black Magic Murders” has been advancing smoothly, with post recording already completed. The cast for the episode includes Taiki Matsuno as Kindaichi Hajime and Akiko Nakagawa as Miyuki Nanase. For these two, who also worked on the TV series, this episode was their first work on the series in five years. Both actors had the following messages for fans:
Matsuno: Since this is the second part to the story, thrilling and exciting things events will transpire. Everyone, please watch it soon!
Nakagawa: Being able to work together again with the same cast from 15 years ago was a blessing. I think you will not only feel nostalgia but also a new beginning between Hajime and Miyuki!
