The sci-fi anime Space Battleship Yamato, which originally aired from 1974-1975, is being remade after 39 years. The title of the remake is Space Battleship Yamato 2199. As you could probably guess from the title, the story takes place in the year 2199. Even though production on the TV series has already ended, it was announced that the anime will finally begin airing this April.
Space Battleship Yamato is the representative anime of the 70s and is a legend due to its influence on many subsequent sci-fi anime. The anime was directed by Leiji Matsumoto, who is also known for creating Galaxy Express 999. Space Battleship Yamato is also known as one of the representative works of the sci-fi anime genre, and even today, it is a highly popular work with a deeply rooted fanbase. The person in charge of directing this legendary remake is Yutaka Izubuchi. Izubuchi is also a manga writer and is known for being a fan of Space Battleship Yamato.
On Jan. 12, 2013, an advance screening event of the anime was held in 12 theaters throughout Japan. The event garnered a superb reaction. Look forward to the start of Space Battleship Yamato 2199 this April!
