The Entire Event is Being Powered Up! Details on Nico Nico Cho Kaigi 2 Announced!

Dwango and Niwango recently held a press conference to announce details about Nico Nico Cho Kaigi 2, a major event from the Nico Nico video service, which both companies run.

The first Nico Nico Cho Kaigi was held in April 2012, at Makuhari Messe. The event attracted 92,384 people attending in person and 3,470,766 people taking part online. This year’s Nico Nico Cho Kaigi 2 will also be held at Makuhari Messe and will span two days from April 27-28, 2013. Currently, 36 different events are planned, including a “Super Game Area,” a “Super Creator Summit,” a “World Cosplay Summit - Nico Nico Qualifying Competition,” and a “Super Vocaloid Area - THE VOC@LOID Cho-M@STER 24.”

Nico Nico Cho Kaigi 2 will include a tentatively-named “Nico Nico Tower” equipped with giant monitors that will serve as an advanced way to connect the online comments with the event space. The monitors on all four sides of the tower are planned to air live video feeds of the conference. It will be visible from anywhere within the Event Hall.

On the Nodo Jiman (Show Off Your Voice) Stage, which will recreate the popular Nico Nico Douga category “Uttemita,” guests can sing their favorite karaoke songs, and their performance will be broadcast live on Nico Nico Live. Not just conference attendees, but also online audiences will be able to put their singing voices on display. This year, singers will also be able to put on a full performance, complete with LED lights, on the “World’s Most Luxurious Super Nodo Jiman for Pros.”

The Vocaloid Area will have its own stage to hold events, as well as the “VOCALO Wagon,” where visitors can try out new Vocaloids; a “VocaloP Studio,” which allows guests to see how a VocaloP song is made; a “Vocalo Game Corner;” and more. There will also be stage events put on by participating companies.

The “Super Food Corner” is being expanded from last year, which included 30 shops that continued to sell out as they served regional cuisine from all over the country and featured menus from popular cooking videos. There are expected to be about 1.5 times more menus this year.

The conference will also host the Japan preliminary qualifying rounds for the World Cosplay Summit, a performance and home-made cosplay costume competition featuring the best cosplayers from over 20 countries around the world. Participants can enter the qualifying rounds by either submitting an entry form beforehand and being selected or by competing in the consolation tournament to be held on the first day of Nico Nico Cho Kaigi 2. Not only World Cosplay Summit qualifying round participants, but also regular attendees will be able to use the cloakrooms and changing rooms prepared especially for cosplaying and take part in the conference dressed in cosplay.

Twelve companies, including Fuji Television, are sponsoring this year’s Nico Nico Cho Kaigi 2. The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will also provide support. It was reported that last year’s event lost money, so it’s to be seen what will happen this year.
