On Dec. 18, 2012, the official site for the TV anime Overman King Gainer reopened. The anime, which began in September 2002, is directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, produced by Sunrise, and broadcast on WOWOW. Ten years have passed since the anime began. As such, the site has been revamped and reopened as a 10 year anniversary site for the series. To commemorate the site’s opening, the first episode of the anime is currently available to stream for free.
Also syncing up with the 10 year anniversary is BANDAI VISUAL’s announcement of a Blu-ray memorial box set for the series, which will be released on Mar. 22, 2013. See the official site for the latest info on this box set.
Overman King Gainer takes place in an apocalyptic future where civilization is on the brink of destruction. Humanity lives in domed cities called Domepolis in the Earth’s deserts and tundras. In the Siberia Domepolis lives the two protagonists, Gainer and Gain, who escape the city in search of an abundant land on the other side of the ocean called Yapan.
The hugely popular comical dance from the anime’s opening is a symbol of this surprisingly lighthearted and fun anime. You can definitely see glimpses of Tomino’s works Gundam, Ideon, and Dunbine in Overman King Gainer.
The official site also has information on characters and mechanics, as well as comments from the staff. Even more commemoration projects are planned for 2013, so don’t miss out!
