“One Piece Film Z” Opens to Rave Reviews, First Day Greeting Event Held

One Piece Film: Z was released throughout Japan on Dec. 15, 2012. On the film’s opening day, at Marunouchi Toei, a greeting event was held in which voice actors from the movie attended dressed as various characters from the series and celebrated the release of the movie.

In the film, the spotlight is placed on Aokiji and Z, who are both former Marine Admirals connected by their conviction to stop Luffy. At the event, director Tatsuya Nagamine and series creator and producer Eiichiro Oda exchanged playful banter with one another as Nagamine commented on his empathy for Z in the movie, to which Oda fired back by saying, “Hey, wait a minute! Luffy is the main character!”

The movie is the first for the series in three years, and ticket sales broke through one million only two days after its theatrical release, making it even more popular than its predecessor. The popularity of One Piece definitely shows no signs of slowing down!
