The popular manga Setoutsumi currently serialized in Bessatsu Shonen Champion (Akita Shoten) is becoming a live-action movie in 2016. The heroine to this movie that is already making headlines has now been announced. Osaka native actress and model Ayami Nakajo is playing the role of female high school student Ichigo Kashimura. It will be her first time acting in a Kansai dialect.
Setoutsumi is a unique series the revolves around laid-back after-school conversations between male high school students Seto and Utsumi in Kansai. Heroine Kashimura is a character who is treated favorably by Seto but in truth has feelings for Utsumi. Starring in this role is Nakajo, currently a model for the magazine Seventeen. Nakajo, whose popularity is currently skyrocketing, gained attention in a commercial for Pocari Sweat, which is said to be a gateway to stardom for young actresses, and made her movie debut in Fatal Frame. Born and raised in Osaka, her Kansai dialect is sure to be a highlight of Setoutsumi. How will this 18 year old play a female high school student in the movie?
Regarding the movie, Nakajo commented, “It’s set in my hometown of Osaka, the surreally nonchalant attitude of Seto and Utsumi is really interesting, and I even like the minion cats, so I had thought about wanting to be a part of it; I’m really happy.” She also showed enthusiasm for the role: “I’ve never really had the chance up till now to talk in a Kansai dialect so I’m really looking forward to filming. I can’t wait until it’s complete!”
Regarding the reasoning behind her appointment to the role, director Tatsushi Omori revealed, “She cast a strong light when we met. And I’m confident that she will shine even brighter, so I offered her the role.” We can look forward to how she’ll interact with Utsumi, played by Sosuke Ikematsu, and Seto, played by Masaki Suda.
Setoutsumi is based on a popular manga by Kazuya Konomoto currently serialized in Bessatsu Shonen Champion. Directing the movie is Tatsushi Omori whose experience includes Tada's Do-It-All House and The Ravine of Goodbye.
