Famous to Tohoku, there is a special pastry called “zunda mochi”. The term “zunda” means mashed green soybeans. A bit of sugar is added to the zunda and used to cover mochi to make this sweet treat. Did you know there is a character designed after zunda mochi named Tohoku Zunko? She is very popular! In fact, a Tohoku Zunko Android widget has already been released. However, there is now even better news. A game for the character has finally been released! The game Tohoku Zunko is now available for iOS devices.
Within the game, Zunko travels throughout Japan to all 47 different prefectures. Players first select a large area such as Chubu, Hokkaido, and Tohoku and then select a prefecture. While players are selecting a stage, each prefecture’s specialties and highlights are pointed out.
Players advance through each stage by using Zunko’s “Zunda Arrows” to attack and defeat enemies who are shown as famous products of that prefecture. Once in a while, a zunda mochi will appear after defeating an enemy, which recovers Zunko’s strength when picked up.
Zunko is also popular as a Voiceroid, and fans will be happy to know that Satomi Sato, who lent her voice to Zunko’s Voiceroid, also voices Zunko in the game. However, the game’s interface, enemy characters, and backgrounds have room for improvement. Another unfortunate point is the plentiful crashes that occur while playing the game. Nevertheless, the game is more than just a game; it’s a way to support the Tohoku region. Tohoku is still recovering from the effects of the 2011 earthquake, and through this game you may be able to fall in love with the area, even just a little bit. Tohoku needs all the support it can get, and we greatly urge you to support too.
