A Letter to Momo Wins the Best Animated Feature Film Award at the 6th Asia Pacific Screen Awards

“A Letter to Momo” by Hiroyuki Okiura released in Japan in April 2012 and achieved brilliant success. Okiura is also known for his past work, “Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade”. On Nov. 23, 2012, “A Letter to Momo” won the award for Best Animated Feature Film at the 6th Asia Pacific Screen Awards, marking the first time in five years that a Japanese animation film won. The film that won in 2007 was “5 Centimeters Per Second”.

The movie has a fantastic and heartwarming story about a young girl named Momo who is dealing with the passing of her father, Kazuo, shortly after she moves with her mother from Tokyo to an island in the Seto Inland Sea. The bond shared between Momo and her mother, Ikuko, also adds to the beauty of the movie. The film was played at the New York International Children's Film Festival and won the Grand Prize Feature, an extremely high honor. This recognition further acknowledges the excellence of the movie.

One reason for its great success is how the movie captures “the beauty of drawing animation”. We’d like to applaud the talented animators for their work on this magnificent movie.
