Sword Art Online II is the second season of the massively popular MMORPG-themed anime Sword Art Online. The series adapts the Phantom Bullet arc from volumes five and six of the original light novels written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by Abec, as well as the Calibur arc (volume eight), and the Mother’s Rosario arc (volume seven).

A year after the events of the first season with Asuna rescued from the world of Alfheim Online, Kirito (Kazuto Kirigaya) finds himself called on again as a series of mysterious real world deaths are linked to the MMORPG Gun Gale Online (GGO). Once inside the cyberpunk, western-inspired game he meets ace sniper Sinon who eventually begins helping him in his quest to unmask the criminal known as Death Gun. Soon Kirito and Sinon enter the Bullet of Bullets tournament in which they expect Death Gun to appear, but past trauma threatens to interfere with their mission to stop Death Gun for good.
